Heatermeter help in setting up Email and SMS

I'm trying to get my heatermeter to send my phone alerts when alarms happen. I can get it to work with pushbullet, but work frowns on "non-work" apps on the work phones. I am trying to set up the SMTP client using my gmail ( non-work ) or my @att email. Neither seem to be working. Can somebody lead me down the path to rightness on this, and in non-computer genius speak? Thanks!

I'm using the latest for RaspPi 3 and had to use an account I don't care about security on.

I had to edit "Disable Access for less Secure Apps".

It's in settings for gmail. Kinda hard to find, but it works for me perfectly

Thanks! That is what I needed. I set up an gmail just for my smoker.
