oh well..Weber customer service has always been good. It should be here Friday. Whats with the door? Is it really supposed to stay propped open when inserted and opened? I can't see how that would be very easy wit the bendable metal. Can't wait to fire her up!

Bummer Glenn.

I can't speak from experience on the 22.5, but the 18.5 inch version has a door that can prop itself open if you would like to add coals/gently stir the coals/add water to the pan during a long cook.

Enjoy your new smoker,
Fred

Congrats on the WSM 22! I took my bottom heat shield off, it have never noticed any benefit.

The heat shield is there to protect the surfaces below and outside of the smoker. The benefit is that it can add about 25 degrees relecting heat back into the unit.
