Hi, I live on a fiberglass power boat & we are not allowed to use our BBQs on the dock. Has anyone got ideas on insulation products to insulate my 18" WSM so that I don't melt my fiberglass? I was thinking of using Kaowool blanket to shield the fiberglass from heat, or maybe just surrounding the WSM with it? I have a small sheet of 1/2" Homasote board (used for model railroad layouts). Isn't this product originally used for lining fireplaces, would this work under the WSM? Any suggestions will be welcome.

Water Heater jackets are commonly used for insulating WSMs. Insulating the WSM
Wikipedia says Gypsum board is more fire resistant than Homasote and Home Depot has Fire Shield Gypsum board for $6.22.
That or a combo of the two should work.
Stability would be a paramount concern.

If you have the newer WSM the heat shield and any type of non com grill mat or pan should be good enough for bottom heat.
I use one of these to set my base in for a wind block. That will at least contain any stray hot ashes or coals from dropping down onto your boat deck.
Like Travis wrote. Stability would be my main concern as far as a tip over or grease fire.
