Heat deflectors: why on Genesis but not on Summit??

Any idea why Weber engineers put the heat deflectors (the two large/wide thin ones UNDER the flavorizer bars) on the Genesis grills, but there are none on the Summit grills?? Seems like the two are engineered so similarly, yet one has them and one doesn't.

What say you?

They help get slightly better heat output and distribution with lower BTU. They also help quench grease pan fires. No reason you can't give them a try.

My thought is that Weber has not made any substantive changes to the design or features of Summit gas grills since 2011. If/when they get around to a redesign, we'll probably see the Genesis II "engine" adapted to Summit, including those heat deflectors.
