Hanging Brisket

Is there any advantage to hanging a brisket in a smoker instead of laying it flat of the grate? I know that Paul Kirk always hangs his briskets.
 
Depending on the design of your pit hanging briskets can increase the volume of meat you can cook. Where it helps keep briskets moist I'll have to take Paul's word for it because I've never cook in that manor.
