grilling a couple of tri-tips

I was thinking of putting the charcoal in the two charcoal containers that came with my performer and putting them in the middle of the grill, under the CI grate to sear and mark the meat - after that to finish the meat indirect, I thought I would leave the meat on the CI grate in middle and move the charcoal baskets to the sides. Of course, I could just move the meat to the sides to cook indirect, but thats too easy.

When I do mine tomorrow, I'm just going to pile the coals on one side and sear the meat then move it to other side for the indirect. But you way will work fine

I gave up on the baskets and just pile the coals where I want them, I can get a nice high pile near the grate then just knock it down after searing or move the meat aside.
