Grilled Oysters - Need to rinse grill afterwards?

Just split a bushel of oysters with a buddy of mine and cooked a bunch on the grill after my hands were tired of shucking them raw. The guy he got them from said we needed to rinse the grill after cooking because of all the salt, etc. Any validity behind this? I could see maybe on a gas burner, but probably not charcoal.

Those of you who grill these things, whatcha think?

I saw a program on Food Channel or Network or something, where a guy got them fresh from the harvest, then went to the local farmer's market in the city square and cooked them on the half shell the same day he made his own BBQ sauce. San Francisco, I think.

Man, they looked sooooo good. Been wanting to try that on my grill as well.

Why not... Ain't gonna hurt the grill to wash it up...
I've smoked oysters many times... never thought of it...
Enjoy your dessert!

I've cooked bushels of clams and oysters on all kinds of grills. Can't say I bothered with rinsing. Just clean up as usual and then burn a load of coal or hi temp it with gas and equipment was ready to go. Never had any problem with fishy taste or after affects.

Clams I have always just threw them on and pulled them off as they opened, lifting gently to conserve liquid. Oysters I've done whole and shucked on the half shell.

Oysters are also good grilled New Orleans style:

If you've had these while in Louisiana you will know just what I mean, you just can't stop!
