Grill cover for Genesis Silver-B?

Hi Everyone,

New to this forum. Seemed like a very active one, so I'm looking forward to getting some good info here as I browse some different topics.

At any rate, my question today is regarding a cover for my older Genesis Silver-B (great grill by the way, essentially the same as the day I bought it about 12 years ago :))

The original cover was great - model 9857 I believe. Lasted close to 10 years (in Minnesota, with harsh seasonal extremes). Seems the ones they're selling now are not of the same quality as the older ones. I got a Weber replacement 2 years ago (can't remember the model), and it's not holding up well at all - torn, worn, faded, etc. Before I spend another $60 on the newest generation of Weber covers (model 7106 I think?), does anyone have experience with these newer versions? Are they improved over previous ones?

Also, are there any other good options for high-quality non-Weber covers? Just would like something that might last at least 4 or 5 years.

Thank you!
Bryan

Welcome to the forum. I only have the factory covers for my Performer and WSM. I don't have a cover for my Genesis yet. There are many here who can advice you on different covers. I know you will get responses to your question here. This is a great place to learn and to share.

The original cover on my Silver B was awesome. I now have an aftermarket one and really dislike it. I have a new 7107 coming this week for my Genesis 300 series grill and I will see how it fits on the Silver B. The Amazon reviews seem pretty mixed and if you look @ the feedback on Weber's own site (https://store.weber.com/accessories/category/cover/1573) there are a ton of "Sorry you hate it, you must be talking about the older one. We have a new one." responses from Weber. I'd speculate that the old one everyone is complaining about is the one you have had for a couple years.

From the Internet:

In 2015 Weber has an ingenious solution for the design and material of its gas grill covers. Made of 100 percent polyester, the new generation covers are as rugged as vinyl, but more breathable and pliable even in extreme cold conditions. The softness of the fabric also allows for easiest cover placement and removal. Answering the questions of how and where to store the cover, Weber has sewn into the seam a drawstring storage bag that fastens with a hang loop and Velcro. The bag, loop and Velcro are all neatly out of sight when the grill is covered. Providing year-round protection from the environment, these fabric covers carry a generous 3-year limited warranty.

I ordered from Amazon so won't have any problems finding my receipt in 35 months if it turns out to be crap.;)

I believe Weber covers have a 2 year warranty. I'd give Weber a call and see if they will replace what you have. Then you could still look for an 3rd party cover.

Just to follow up on this, in case anyone is looking at this thread for future research, I did get the Weber 7106 model and it fits the Silver B perfectly.

The material is definitely lighter than any other cover I've had. I like it so far, it's soft and easy to take on and off. Also has the velcro strips on the sides.

The real test of course, will be to see how many seasons this lasts before fading, tearing, etc. It does have a 3-yr warranty, so I will be sure to hang onto the receipt, etc.

I feel the 7107 is too big on the Silver B. I'll use that on the Genesis 300 and consider ordering a 7106 later. The material on the new cover is like a light rain jacket. I agree with Bryann that it's the lightest cover I've ever encountered - about like an inexpensive motorcycle cover.
