Hello all! First off, thank you for allowing me to join the forums. I am in El Paso Texas, not from El Paso, but this is my hone for now. Anyway.... As of right now, I do not have a Weber Smokey Mountain. I have a Weber Performer grill right now. A few nights ago I tried to MacGyver a way to smoke some ribs on my performer, unfortunately that did't go as well in real life as it did in my head when I was thinking of it. So, I am researching a smoker. I am trying to decide whether to sell the performer and get an egg or a kamado type grill/smoker, or keep the performer and go for a Smokey Mountain. O am leaning more toward the Smokey Mountain. I like the ability to get the smoker running and it is low maintenance all day while cooking. The Kamado seems to be higher maintenance, less set it and forget it. Anyway, I have been perusing this forum for a few days and since i am leaning toward the Smokey, i figured I would introduce myself.

Hello Jay Stekan. Glad to have you here. I started with a 22 inch Weber kettle and then went to the Performer and gave the Weber kettle to a friend. I have had great results with Turkeys on the Performer and get great smoke taste. Then I decided to get the WSM22 and have not looked back since. Both of them have their place and they each do a great job. You can't go wrong with both. Even when I have had problems, the results were still great food. You will get a lot of help on this forum and you can't go wrong with Weber. Take a look at some of the rehabs of 20 year old Genesis gassers. Weber still sells parts and they still work great. Good luck with your decision.
