Hi turkey lovers.l..I'm wondering about my apple wood...I've had a hard time finding it...so I went to an apple orchard near my home and broke a dead looking limb from one of the trees. I'm concerned that the wood will be too green? Is that generally a problem? Should I just soak it and not worry about it?
Thanks...the worried chef

If it is a dead branch you can use it, there is no need to soak the wood. I would clean any punky material from the wood it there is any.

100% agreement with Jim. A dead branch is perfect is perfect for smoking as is, minus the punky sections.

You'll love apple wood. It makes mighty fine barbecue.

I will do my heavy trimming and shaping after the first hard freeze. You may want to ask the apple people and see if you could get some larger wood.

Thanks for the encouragement fellas....I'm giving it a shot with excitement...i'll let y'all know the results....fingers are crossed
