Go Anywhere Propane AND Charcoal?

Has anyone run a propane Go Anywhere with charcoal? I'd like to build a little GA kit that can burn either fuel, depending on the meal. I did something similar with a Masterbuilt portable smoker that would run 120VAC at home and propane in the field, more for the challenge than practicality.

Seems like the ash getting into the burner tube could be problematic.

I remember seeing somebody doing this. They took a charcoal GA and drilled a hole in the side to slide in a burner tube from a gas version, and just added a deflector from the gas version. They had a little cover for the hole when using charcoal. I can't remember where I saw it though. May have been FaceBook.
