Howdy from OKC where the wind comes sweep down the plains ... literally! I've been doing BBQ for years. Dad had an Stick Burner made from oil field pipe and a Weber Kettle. I'd take a stb at the odd burger and hot dog but nothing serious. After I graduated from college, I bought a used stick burner and started learning the craft of BBQ. It cratered and I stepped up quality with another Stick Burner as well as a Gasser. Those served well until grad school when I was introduced to the Big Green Egg by my neighbor, a professor of meat science. It was a quantum step forward and within a month had sold the venerable Stick Burner and the Gasser. That was over 20 years ago.

The Large BGE got Humptied in a move and was replaced with a Medium BGE as I was now a single man. That BGE filled the bill until about 7 years ago when I saw the Primo Oval XL and had to have one. It relegated the BGE to kid duty at parties and storage. The Primo XL is my go to cooker and I use it about 5 or 6 evenings a week.

I'm quite interested in the Weber Kettles. I'm thinking of buying one in the next month and learning from you good people here. I'm looking at the Weber One Touch Gold grills. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Here's to great cooks and even better memories with family and friends!*

Welcome to the site Ken, my advice is get an OTG, for the money there isn't a better charcoal grill out there as far as versatility, ease of cleanup and durability.

Welcome aboard Ken! As Mike said the OTG is a super grill, but I would also consider the Weber Performer. I
have both and I prefer the Performer, with the gas assist and the work table area.

Ken Welcome!

Like the Mikes said, OTG is a great basic kettle, but the Performer is a nice upgrade. I opted for the OTG mostly for budgetary reasons. But Also because the biggest advantage that I saw of the Performer over the OTG was the work surface, and I already had a decent system/setup for a work surface (or so I thought). At the time the OTG didn't have a dome thermometer, but I had been using a fryer thermometer through the top vent so that wasn't really a draw for me. Now it's a moot point because the OTG has the thermometer.

If I had to do it over again with today's models, and budget wasn't an issue, I'd probably go with the Performer, but I honestly have no regrets about the OTG. It's a good unit.
