Genesis Silver B that looks abandoned - needs frame weld

I've got the bug (the Weber Genesis one - not that other one!). I've been walking my dog past a multifamily with a Genesis Silver B out in the corner of the parking lot against a fence. It's been there a while. The left frame along the firebox will need a piece welded in. I looked up the landlord and emailed them to see if a renter left it behind. Is it true the guild of weber restorationists have a rule that frame welds dictate free curbside pickup? :)

You don’t have to weld in a new crossbar. Bruce made this video on how to replace it with tube inserts. I paid for one with a bad crossbar, but it was a Redhead and I REALLY wanted it. 😀

I have a feeling the landlord will be more than happy to have you drag it away. Good find.

Be sure to read the entire thread linked by Richard. One member had an interference problem with the cross bolt.

Yeah. The rod works if you don’t have to put the bolt through the bar. Not saying that the creative mind could not figure out how to bend the threaded rod down before installing it so the bolt could go above it. For the left crossbar beside the firebox you would be better off with the inserts or welding. Also, if there is rust or oil on the inside of the tubing the inserts will not hold as well.

Maybe a clear picture will explain this better. Regardless of whether you bolt through the Xmember or bolt into it, there is a potential interference problem with the end of the expander when it is inserted into the tube.

EDIT: I'm going to add this picture at the end of the other thread.

Last night I decided to take some photos. This thing is a such a mess I was hesitant to lift the hood worrying I might disturb something .

I think it's a parts grill, not a rehab candidate. Silver B's are plentiful and reasonably priced, at least in my area.

You will definitely need another grill to complete the rebuild. If it is free, it is a good deal.

The valves, manifold, tank support and hardware, and the reg and hose would be worth something to someone doing a gas conversion, but they would have to live nearby...

EDIT: And the tank...is the tank included? There's a spare tank, too, if so.
