Coming along slowly, still need new burner tubes and a starter. Flavorizers are fair but won't last much longer. I also added the extra shelf for fun.

Is that right sided table original to this grill? Are you missing the left sided casters? Interesting grill, did you find the serial number under the right side control panel?

Not sure if the right side table is original, but the grill is probably a Genesis 2 or 3 judging by the missing left side casters.

No, the right side table isn't original. It's a genesis 2000. The "before" pics show its original condition from the original owner who bought it new in 1988. He reluctantly sold it because his adult children bought him a new genesis for Father's Day so I decided to snag it. The extra folding shelf came off a donor redhead that had durawood. I had extra z brackets laying around and had cut plenty of extra cedar slats and just wanted to try it out, I may remove it to keep its originality.

This was a donor that I bought it for $20; specifically for the wood handle, the lid, and the working thermometer. I kept a few other good parts as well. like the z brackets and such.

When I went to buy this grill, the owner (an older and honest gentleman) said its never had casters. It sits perfectly level and honestly, all the casters I've ever dealt with are terrible. I like this caster-less design better. I have no reason to doubt him, he even had the manual from when he bought it (see above pics) and it shows it with no casters.

The Genesis 1-5 generation is from about 1985 to 1992 or something like that. Then Weber made some small design changes and changed to the Genesis 1000-5000 model designations. Probably the most significant and obvious difference is the addition of caster wheels on the newer generation grills. There were a few other small changes as well but I don't think anything too significant. They still used wood for the slats until later when they changed to Durawood and then added the slide rail for the swing shelf supports. They also got rid of the metal swing shelf bracket on the far left end and changed to a plastic endcap that had a drop down that the pivot rod fit into. There was some upgrades to the igniter button but that might have even happened prior to the switch to the Genesis 1000-5000. The cook boxes and lids and main parts are all pretty much the same and mostly interchangeable.

Thanks for the info. So, if I took a cook box from a new donor (genesis silver B) that uses fewer flavorer bars, would it work on my older "2" model? My guess is no since it takes a different burner tube assembly but I figured I would ask.

Your guess is correct. The Genesis 1-5 and Genesis 1000-5000 are the same, but they are different than a Silver B cook box. The older 13 bar deep fire boxes are better any way. The double row of flavorizer bars and greater distance from the burners to the grates allows more even heating at grate level. You can take one row of the flavorizer bars out and have more room for spinning larger items on a rotisserie such as a turkey as well.
