Genesis 1100--Cleaned Up Nicely

New guy here. I found TVWBB while researching grills to replace a Costco gasser and I ended up with a Summit E-420 that I found at a national hardware store. New in the box @ 20% off--I didn't ask questions. I just said swipe my card please and deliver it tomorrow, and they did! Very happy with my purchase. I still don't have any Idea why I bought the big shiny stainless Costco grill. Maybe I got sucked into the whole stainless grill thing, but I'm over that now. I even had a perfectly serviceable Weber Genesis 1100 that cooked better than ole stainless, lesson learned.

Once I saw some of the posts here detailing older Genesis rebuild/rehabs, I decided to fix up my old Genesis 1100. Years ago Weber replaced the red hood and let me choose the color, green or black. I took the green as red was no longer available.

A little money, elbow grease and supplies, including 2 cans of Ultra High Heat satin paint for the box and end caps. 1 can of high heat grey primer followed by 1 can of gun metal hammered metallic for the frame. New burners, new igniter, some new stainless screws & bolts for the end caps, new wheels & casters, a new drip tray and here's the finished product.

Sweet! She's ready for more decades of grilling.

I'm curious, why did Weber replace the red hood?

The porcelian enamel started flaking off and when the bad spot was the size of a silver dollar, I called Weber and they sent out a new one. Great service.

The Z-bars of the lower shelf along with the side shelf are all rusty. I'm trying to figure out what to do.
One of the sellers of aftermarket flavorizer bars on eBay also makes those z bars. Not much of a market, so he doesn't list them on a regular basis. But if you ask, he'll sell you a set. Made from stainless steel also. rcplanedude or something like that.

rcplanebuyer, just bought three sets of flavorizer bars from him. Man he is great and his products are better than the original Weber parts!

Very nice!! I have the twin to that one I bought it new in 1993 and have used it heavily over the years. I completely rebuilt it similar to what you have done about four years ago. You can’t beat the way the 13 flavorizer bar models cook compared to the later 8 bar ones. I’ve had both and just no comparison.
I purchased my SS flavorizer bars from rcplanebuyer and as was said in earlier posts excellent product and real nice guy to deal with.

Doug, what brand spray paint did you get for the frame and where did you pick it up? I am trying to fix up a S-320 and the frame looks to be the same color as the one in your pictures.

It was a can of Rust-Oleum Hammered Gray spray paint. I picked it up at a local hardware store called Breed & Co. in Austin, but I've seen it at Home Depot. It doesn't look as "hammered" as I thought it would, but I am happy with the results and it has a nice glossy finish.
