Genesis 1000 - long flavorizer bars necessary?

Hi there,

I have been using and loving my Genesis 1000 since I inherited it 10 years ago. It is awesome, never breaks down, always reliable, cooks better than my friends' new non-weber grills.

A few years ago I replaced the 8 flavorizer bars that run front to back. Recently I learned that there are actually supposed to be 4 long ones that run side to side, below the 8. I've never missed them, and am wondering if I should bother to ahead and buy and install them...I can't imagine this workhorse performing any better, but what might I be missing by not having those long bars in?

Thanks,
Drew

i have no idea and have wondered that myself. up through the 5000 series they had the double layer, l-r, f-b . after that it was/is one layer l-r. either they found that it didn't matter or they just wanted to save bucks that they made the change. if you are happy with it then don't change anything. i boought an old 3 series genesis. took it apart(still a work in progress) and found the f-b ones installed properly but the l-r ones all stacked up in the back. i assume it worked fine all those years that way. if you do install the others, let us know if it really makes a differance.
