Genesis 1000 end caps

Hey I’m sorry if this has been asked a million times but the search engine says the word “end” and “caps” are too small to search for and I’m not sure how else to find this. I want to remove endcaps on my Genesis 1000 and I want to do it the right way. The nuts holding them on are a little caked with gunk. Does anyone have a good recommendation or video with a method? Thanks!

If the nuts are the stamped steel variety, I have found that inserting a small screwdriver in between the bolt head and the endcap is enough to get them off. Early machines have steel nuts, I haven't tried them.

Right on I was going to say they look like regular nuts at first but one of them is less dirty and I could swear it looked like sheet metal. You’re saying put a flathead between the bolt and the end cap on the exterior side? Can the stamped steel nut be reused after that?

I pinch the bolt head with channel locks or pump pliers with one hand and remove the nut with a 7/16” socket on a impact driver

Yes, all the ones I have done have been reused. Use a miniature flathead and twist it a bit.
