Hello Everyone

My cousin is bringing over his first overnite butt for us to eat.Any suggestions forfreezing besides a food saver??Its a 6lber to start and only 3 of us to eat it so I'm sure they'll be a lot left over.

Thanks again
Jeff

I put (approx.) 1 lb. portions in ziplock bags, squeeze as much of the air out as possible, then freeze.

To thaw, bring a pot of water to a boil, remove from heat, drop bag in water to heat.

Simple! ;-)

Since Charles has done it, he knows what he's talking about. I have heard some on the board caution about boiling zip locks because they can break ? If you plan ahead you can defrost the zip lock pretty quickly and reheat in small portions at a low setting in your microwave.

Charles, what type/brand of ziplock are you using? I would love to reheat my bbq with hot water and a baggie. It would seem like the ideal way to reheat. But .... every baggie site I go to says not to do it. Here's one, Glad bags faq
Now I know we as bbq folk use a lot of unconventional methods and we don't always follow all the standard rules (MM for example). Yet we still manage to produce tasty products that are safe to eat. I just can't bring myself to try the boiling water method.
Then again, I see these baggie websites don't recommend microwave use either. And I'll do that ... very carefully.

Just a point to ponder.

If the portion is not too large you can bring the water to a boil first then drop in the bag, cover the pot, and shut it off (or turn the heat low so the water stays hot but doesn't come to a boil). This works better if you flattened your butt out in the bag before you froze it.

Hey everyone

He went and spent the money for some of them new ziplocks that you roll the air out of.He only had about 2lbs left when he went so it probably won't be around to long.
Anyways I'm trying to switch him over to a wsm.He did this on a ecb for 9hrs and finished it in the oven.He has a new found respect for the wsm after he's watched me cook on mine and how easy it is. Its only a matter of time we'll have another convert.

Thanks again Everyone
Jeff

Ummm...really, really cheap..?
Never gave a thought to whether or not it was "safe" to do, just been doing it forever, never had a failure.
Just heed the advice about removing pot from heat before dropping in baggie.
