Food probe question

Does anyone other than compulsive me sterilize their food probe before each use?

i spit on mine, then wipe it off. course its cleaned after use.

Im the laziest cook, who will do everything before cooking, but will do nothing after cooking. So after a cook I never clean, but I do a very quick go over with a sponge, and rinse, and go. This is usually when my fire is going and the meat is ready to roll.

You can clean those? I thought the patina on them was to encourage growth of the imune system.

I rinse mine under water real quick. Or at least wave it in the air while the water is on I think? Yeah. I am what they would call 'bad' about that. (I think my wife puts the probe through the dishwasher behind my back, or does something to it.)

It's like hand crank can openers. They don't realy get 'cleaned'. When it gets to the point that the health inspector would ding you, you throw it out and get a new one.

Probe yes, wire no, I made that mistake with my first probe

Apparently the wire dosent really like to get wet that often...


A little dawn and a scotch brite and it shines up like new...

Edit: I just wipe mine off with a towel or sponge (thermapen). For meat probes from the various other devices that stay in during the whole cook I clean them off with some soap and sometimes a brillo as needed. Just on the probe, not the wire. But no, I don't sterilize.

But for those who find this important there are always probe wipes

I clean the probe, not the wire, with a clorox blend before every use.
