Yesterday I used the PartyQ for the first time. This thing is AWESOME!!!. I used it to smoke a chuck roast at 250. I started with minion method and let the smoker go with all vents open for about 15 min to help kick start the temp. I then attached the Party Q, set a temp of 250, closed the remaining vents and let her go. The smoker got to temp about 15 min after turning on the PartyQ. I checked temp every half hour or so through out the cook and the temp remained in the 250 range. The only temperature spikes were when I lifted the lid to manage the roast.
My only concern was when the cook was done I noticed a dusting of ash on top of the foil that I wrapped the roast in. I also noticed ash in the water bowl. Most of this cook was in foil so that didnt bother me but I bought the PartyQ primarly for ribs. Im afriad that open ribs will get a layer of ash on them. Anyone else have this issue??? Did I use too much charcoal for the cook and the extra ash was blown onto the food?? I used a heaping weber chimney starter full of kingsford BBQ competition charcoal in the pan and lit about 50 more coals. Is there anything else I can do to prevent this ash problem???
