First smoker, 22" or 18" ?

So I got my first Performer in June and have been addicted to it ever since. I actually bought another one yesterday on a whim, could not pass up a deal, $250.00 end of season (not for me).

Wanted any thoughts on which smoker I should go with, the 22" or the 18". Most of the time I am just cooking for the Lil General and I, but of course many weekends entertaining for friends.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Do you like ribs? More than 3 racks at a time? Would you like to add extras as your smoking (fatties, sausages, wings, etc....)?

If you only smoke a rack or 2 of ribs, a butt or 2, a brisket or 2 with none of the above mentioned then the 18.5 is for you!

Otherwise get the 22.5 and don't look back! I had the small one for awhile and thought I didn't need the big boy until I was obsessed with Q then I bit the bullet (pun intended)!

Bottom line if you really like Q'n and entertaining you will enjoy the 22.5!

Good luck on your choice

Thanks Glenn, I was anxious to see what kind of feedback I would get then scrolled and found tons of posts like mine, maybe I will be able to find an outlet that wants to unload their summer stock, either way I think I will go with the 22"

$400 for a cooker that will last you many years is a great deal! You will spend that on charcoal and smoke wood in no time!

I encourage you to visit a local ACE Hardware or BBQ store and compare them side-by-side. The 22" is huge.

And it's heavy. I was in my local ACE Hardware today and I'd estimate that the lid to the 22 weights 2x more than the lid to the 18.
