I have a thread started over in the "New WSM'r" area on my first smoke with my new WSM 18.5. I am a little over 5 hours into the smoke and I am loving the new smoker. I had used a USD that I had built but this is my first smoke with this type of smoker.

My question is my heat is staying constant but now 5 hours in I am seeing no smoke coming out. Is this normal and do I need to do anything different? I am sitting at 250 at the lid and 225-235 at the grate.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yes it's normal if you added the wood chunks on top of the un-lit, this way the white smoke usually dissipates in an hour or so. Just a guess but if you're use to using a UDS you're prolly more accustomed to seeing that smoke from the fat dripping on the coals. The WSM water pan acts as a deflector and a drip pan.
Good luck on you're schmoke!:wsm:

Yeah thanks Tim... my UDS would smoke till the very end and I did not think about the fat drippings causing those.
