First real cook on the Q, less than impressed.

I called out Weber because it was where I originally got the idea. Oddly when I bought the Genesis (new BTW), I called them and asked about things like best way to clean the grates and such. It was a CS rep there that said to give that a try when it was dirty. So I had the grill for awhile it got dirty and tried the "trick". The grill was going a short time (many years ago so can't remember how long but it wasn't much) anyway I heard a loud noise like a metallic twang. No better way to describe it. Did not think too much of it. Because on the Genesis II that part of the box is hidden behind a trim panel. Well later on is when I found the issue when I was taking the FB's out to clean. and saw the fire box with a huge "bow" in it. Upon calling Weber to complain about it the first question I was asked is if I had done the foil trick. I responded that I did and the rep told me emphatically that it should NEVER be done on the grill because of the type of casting they use and the reflected heat is way more than the box is designed for. I ended up replacing it on my own. I have never done this type of "cleaning" ever again and have never had an issue again. So those are the facts. And if you want to make another personal attack well I guess it is your choice. I was not having a tizzy fit or personally attacking you. Only trying to help a member not have an issue like this. Just because someone does something that may not be "right" and get away with it does not make it right. Only makes them "lucky". Just as some people smoke and don't get ill from cancer does not make smoking "good". Only them lucky. Trust me no ill will just trying to help. My apologies if you took it any other way. Be well!

yep, they are coated but so lightly that they will need treating. we all have ideas. up to you to try what you want to from those suggestions. take them at face value.
no need for the above.
