Firewall or Ring?

I will be cooking my first 9lb butt next week in my Performer. I'm thinking this will require overnight cooking which I've never done. Since the longest I've cooked was about 7 hours, I'm not sure what the best overnight technique to use would be. I've tried the ring a few times but always ended up with gaps that I had to "repair."

Any suggestions?

I used the ring method once. I used the fire ring from ceramic grill and put about 60 some briquetts around half the ring. I got an 8 hour burn with plenty left. I probably could have had a 1o plus hour burn.
