Im getting married on the 28th of this month and the new wife bought me a WSM as a gift! Im on the road driving a truck, but cant wait to get home to fire this puppy up. Planning on cooking 4 butts for the wedding party n Friday. Is there anything I need to do special such as season the WSM or anything?

Allen, first of all CONGRATULATIONS!! And Welcome. You are one lucky dude, a wife to be who buys you a WSM, oh my!

No break in or seasoning of the WSM necessary. That being said the cooker will cook a bit hotter at first and probably not seal as well around the edges and door as it will when you have built up a layer of "stuff" on the walls.
When I got my new WSM I did a practice cook just to see how she behaved. I didn't want to waste the heat so I threw on a whole bird. You will probably find improvement in the cooker after a few cooks.
I was lucky out of the box, but there have been reports of out of round sections and doors the need tweeking. No wories. the metal is pretty pliable and any major problems are delt with quickly by Weber cust service.

Hope you have a great cook and more importantly a GREAT wedding!
One lucky guy!!!!!

I know that feeling! My wife got one for my birthday-you will like it!I fired it up just to see how it would work before i cooked on it,i think its not neccessary.Mine worked as expected using top vent wide open and bottom vents for temp control. Also had the water pan with water in place.Congrats on the wedding! Any gal buys a man a wsm is a keeper.Enjoy! Richard

Allen - Congrats and Welcome! I also have the 22 and LOVE it!!! No need to season it. Depending on how well the parts "fit" together, you might run a smidge warm due to unwanted air ingression. All that means is, keep a closer eye while she settles in. One bit of advice though, take the door and see how it fits. Use a flashlight from the outside-in and if you notice any gaping openings, bend the door gently to close those gaps as best as possible. That will help a lot as far as running too warm IMO. I'm no expert, but it worked for me when I first got mine. One other thing is to check the lid thermometer in boiling water to see if it is off or not. At least this way you'll know going in whether you need to compensate or not. Have a ball!!!

Congrats! She sounds like an awesome lady.

I'd recommend using water in the water pan and starting with the "minion method" your first few times out. These will help you regulate temps. Top vent wide open, bottoms about 15% is what I was using when my WSM was brand new.

Its easier to bring temp up than to bring it down. Post pics when you can!

You're getting married and a smoker on my birthday!?

Smoked on mine right out of the box and it was great! You're gonna love the smoker, and congratulations!!
