Feeling the heat

My just assembled 18.5 WSM is posing on the patio, and the built-in thermometer in the lid is showing 145 degrees. The actual temp is only 99 so far at 1620 CDT.
Will the temperature skew affect my cook tomorrow when I fire it up?
Planning to do BBs that will be well rubbed, using with water pan and applewood in the Stubb's charcoal.
I'm excited.

Never, and I repeat, never, depend on the grill therm in any Weber product. I had a Master Touch, now have an older Performer, and a WSM, and none of the therms are worth a hoot. Get anything accurate you can find, and there are many suggestions on this forum, and use that. I use a wireless Maverick to success, but whatever you use is better than the built-in therm. Good luck on your cook tomorrow.

Welcome Richard!
Going from full shade to sun will spike your temps up more, but still within BBQ range.
In full sun my empty WSM with a turkey fryer therm will hit about 120°-130°.
You're using the water in the pan? That will help even out any spikes.
Its a black bullet, and it will absorb some heat.

Well the Thermometer in any cooker is just a guide. You will have different readings in alot of places inside the cooker. Its not a weber thermo problem,Its like this with all cookers. Even my $$$$ Primo therm is off.

But lern to cook using it or find another thermo..Like the Maverick. But as stated all over this forum temp is is a "wide" therm. Get as close as target and stay there and your meat will turn out great.

Dome 1 temp
Upper grate another temp
Lower grate yet another temp
And so on......
