Elk Shoulder?

Has anyone cooked an elk shoulder or something similarly as lean on the WSM? A friend of mine tasted my beef shoulder last week and wants me to try a elk shoulder he has in his freezer. Not sure how to do it and I would appreciate any advice.

Used the BBQ guru for the second time on the beef shoulder and it came out fantastic...
10 hrs smoke + 10 hours foiled
 
I have not done elk shoulder but have done lean meats. Elk shoulders are probably better braised. You could start it as a typical smoke cook--at low temps--but then foil (or place in a pan or pot, covered) with liquid(s) and aromatics, which would make most of the cooking process a braise and likely give you better results. Cook till tender. If you wish, marinate the shoulder first or lard it--or both.
