Drying wood in the oven??

I would like to dry out some fruit wood to use for Thanksgiving. Is it possible to speed up the process by drying it in the oven or microwave? Is this a stupid question?

cut it to small size. and check it frequently for smoke. you dont want it to set your fire alarms off. the other concern may be critters living in the woods like bugs and such that may be resting int ehre can get nasty if you got an infested piece and they start looking for a cooler home. im not sure i would personally do it in the oven or even store it inside my house.

anyway if i want to speed up the process i just stick some in my out door shed and just wait a year to use it.

Plus, if you chunk it up pretty small, say 2x2x2", and put it someplace where the relative humidity is around 50%, it'll be seasoned enough by t-giving.

How is this for a compromise? Place the chunks on the WSM racks and run at low temperature overnight (without water in the pan). For some reason I really like the idea of "smoking" the smoke wood...

The oven at 215 will certainly take care of any bugs and dry your wood safely. Sounds like a simple solution
