have you guys seen this article on extremetech.com?
homemade BBQ Guru

They used a Javelin Stamp processor, but I think it would be a lot easier to put some software on a PC to monitor the temp and adjust the fan accordingly. (I have a PC close enough to my BBQ that its an option)

What do you guys think?

I wondered about trying that, then when I got a Guru for xmas last year I figured I don't need to wonder any more.

Seems like a "If you have time and a soldering iron...." kind of project. Cool stuff of course. They mention the Guru as being no longer available. Oops.

I've still been working on the one that I posted about a month or two ago. I've selected an A/D converter and have begun the electronics and programming work.

I'm using this device: http://www.acroname.com/brainstem/brainstem.html to interface to the computer.

Note: I'm not trying to replicate a Guru however. Version 1 will just be a data logger. I'll let you know when I have a more detailed writeup.
