Dividing a Brisket

I ran into a little problem the last time I cooked a brisket. Since there is only the two of us at home, how do you divide the brisket up so I can freeze them for later? Last time I just cut the brisket into thirds which left part of the flat and the point. Is there a better solution?

I always separate the brisket between the point and flat. The flat, being leaner, lends itself to slicing. Because the point has more marbling, it is sometimes put back on the smoker for 'burnt ends' and then chopped for sandwiches or to be added to chili, ABTs, etc. Easy to freeze if you have an excessive amount.

If you have a large flat, that can be cut into smaller pieces and frozen until you're ready to slice.

"A brisket divided can not last!"
At least not more than a few days...
