Deflector plate help?

I know there are threads on this but I was wondering how well they work? I got the blueprint from the one Brad did and called my old welding teacher up and is going to try and fix me up with that blueprint on 11 gauge steel. Just wondering how this mod has worked. What advantage does the deflector plate add to the standard kettle?

Supposed to help air flow straight to the coals for all hot air which makes temps stabilize for a very long time

I use foil if I want airflow deflected, and it's disposable after catching drippings.
