Deep cleaning grill grates and a lucky score

Most of the time I don't deep clean my grates, scraping them when hot before and after use is good enough. Once or twice a year I do want to deep clean them. Also, cleaning the WSK deflector plate is always a hussle.

Over the years I tried different methods to some level of succesd, oven cleaner in nylon bags etc. None was satisfactory to me. Every time I ended up finishing the scrub in the house kitchen sink, making a big mess which neither me nor my better half enjoys.

For a while now I've been looking for a big, restaurant style wash sink. I wanted it big enough to be able to soak the WSK and Genesis grates in it.

After a long search, I hit on this score, it was only $135 but I needed to drive two hours each way to get it. The man that sold it told me that it came from a frozen pastry factory. They used it to wash the big trays.
This thing is huge 😁 just the sink is 27x27x15. It is very convenient for soaking and washing big items.

Now, that's a serious grate cleaning setup. Makes the Christmas Wreath storage container I use to soak kettle grates look like a toy.
