I am thinking about buying one of these grate for my 18 inch kettle. My question is, are they too heavy for the 3 legged kettles? I know a lot of folks use them in their performers which makes sense. Thoughts?

I would think absolutely not. People have been using them in their kettles for a few years now and I haven't heard of a single issue. If the structural integrity of the kettle's legs isn't already compromised you should have no problems whatsoever.

This is the grill you need to buy. Everything is there to complete your new 18 and you get the CI grate. Turn the leftover one into a take along with short legs. Then you even have an ash catcher and stainless OT system. There!

The drive from Detroit to Milwaukee might be a bit much. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Understood, but some of my best finds are from places that were out of my reach. Maybe someone in that area could help you with it.
