Well Larry, how'd it go?

Well thanks to some rust on the bottom of the kettle the project was a little more difficult than we anticipated but Ed got her done for me!

The steel piece that holds up the ash catcher while rusted was not a total loss. Ed was able to bend it (carefully) and it supports the ash catcher. I'll probably keep my eye on CL for an old kettle to pull the parts from but for now it works just fine.

There are a couple things that could still be done but for a total investment of $65 I'm good with her as is. Maybe next summer I'll get a wild hair and do some painting but for now I'm thrilled with her! Thanks Ed for your help, if it wasn't' for Ed I would have gotten rid of her.

I'm happy it worked out for you. Always glad to see a Weber rescued. BTW, does the $65 total investment include Beer, or is that just the price for the Beer?

One more tweak! George Curtis contacted me and graciously offered to manufacture a new "bar" to hold-up my ring and ash catcher. Met-up with him yesterday and gave him the parts, we'll keep you posted.

yea, was great to meet up with larry and his son. larry was polite enough to listen to me run off my mouth. i gotta get out more ! don't look hard to make to me so we shall see.

You think he could make up some extras. I need at least two replacement bars.

Bill

I guess I could just ask you directly... as long as your making the bar for Larry, do you think you could make a couple more?

Bill

question, want this made out of regular steel or out of galvenized metal ??

It seems like steel to me but I could be wrong since I have never seen a brand new one. Isn't galvanized much weaker than steel?

i think its plain steel. what i'm asking if it matters. no real biggy. i just assume that the galv stuff might last longer.

I don't think it would matter at all as long as the galvanized stuff is just as rigid as the normal steel.
