Craigslist Performer Purchase

DJ, congrats on the Performer. I got a used one a few months ago too. I love it. That being said, I agree with you about the lid position. Mine bugs me and I find myself taking the lid off and setting it on the ground. Kinda defeats the purpose of lid holder/roller assembly and gives more chances of dings and scratches.

Just last week I bought a 26.75 OTG. The lid on that one slides back almost vertically, see photo. I notice that the 26.75 slides all the way down till it seats in the holder. As you can see from the photo, the Performer doesn't go all the way down. So, that leads me to believe the wire/roller portion might be the issue. The wire needs to be a greater diameter. Not sure if the Performer lid going all the way down would "fix" the issue but it would be closer to vertical at least.

Now, all that being said too, I still love my Performer and wouldn't get rid of it. Just something to complain about, huh?

Mark, I agree. The diameter could be a little wider. If it would sit perfectly vertical (perpendicular to grill) that would be awesome.

I just put it back together. I will just have to get used to it. Besides I am going to be cooking with the lid closed nearly all the time so it is not that big of a deal.

Hopefully sometime this week I will be doing my first ever charcoal cook. I am truly a noob, but I have been doing a ton of research (thanks to this great site) and I think I am going to hit the ground running. I will be taking baby steps. Starting with hamburgers, steaks, etc.

Good luck with the baby steps. Of course, with burgers and steaks you usually don't close the lid. You probably want to just take it all the way off for those cooks.
