Crabapple Wood

Hi all
This is a great forum, you guys give away all your knowledge...
I have a crabapple tree that is about to get taken down. Is that wood as good as regular apple wood for smoking?

I haven't used crabapple yet, but the conventional wisdom is that it is a fruity smoke similar to apple- good for all BBQ meats.

I do know that crabapple wood (at least the apples) are flavored with much much more tannins (read tannic acid). Perhaps be prepared for an taste however bitter.
