Cover for older SS Performer

I want to buy a new cover for my 1996 Performer. I know the cover # I need is 8701, but it's a little harder to find and more expensive.

Will the covers for the newer Performers fit the older grills?

Right now I am just using a cover from a genesis grill and its way too big and looks funny.

Call Weber and order on the phone. About $60 but you'll get free shipping until the end of this week I believe. The new covers don't fit (been there done that, paid $10 to ship it back to the seller). Personally I've been happy with a $20 heavy duty cover I bought at Academy.

I just moved to a house wihtout a garage, so I am in need for one also. Fortunately I had a cover for my '10 and tried it so I knew it wouldn't work.

I was on the phone with Weber last week and it was $50. They said they don't like to compete on pricing on covers with the retailers??? So then I called my local Ace hardware, he was out but ordered some. Oh, and the price, $49.99. So I saved $0.01.
