Costco pork butt price vs. elsewhere

I wasn't sure if this should go here or other discussion, so please someone feel free to let me know for future reference if this isn't the right place.

Can someone tell me why Costco is popular for pork butt? By me, it's 2.49/lb at Costco but 2.29/lb at Food Lion and Lidl, and that's when FL doesn't have it on sale for .99/lb. I'm not sure if it's the quality or what else I might be missing.

Thanks guys! It is boneless at Costco and bone-in at the other places. I prefer bone-in, but yes, that's the difference. I am quite oblivious, you know.

Bone in and Bone out pricing. Costco is Bone out. factor the cost of the bone weight and butchering time and that's how Costco reaches its price. personally, it's just easier for me to go Costco bone out. and i get two butts in a pack. cook one, freeze one as parts for smaller, future meals. at 8 to 10# a butt, is the $.20# worth it to drive elsewhere if you're not already going there? we're just two people. i visit a supermarket 1x a month now. Costco and TJs and some Asian grocers get my other business.
 
I can get a bone in one occasionally on sale for under $2. at the QFC so I keep a few in the freezer.
It doesn’t really matter bone in or bone out to me, I just prefer the bone in to pull out the blade bone temp stick when the cook is done.
 
I'm still able to pick up bone in butts for $.99/lb, but it takes some patience. Our local Kroger and Meijer hit that spot once in a while, more often $1.49 or so. When the price is right, I smoke a couple, shred and freeze a bunch of vacuum sealed flattened packs.

Kroger, Meijer and Costco are all within a ten minute drive. Costco gas savings more than covers our membership, but I've noticed their pricing has gone up overall. Sometimes all we get is flatbread, Lacroix water and a chicken. I miss those days of massive pizzas that barely fit our oven and half sheet carrot cakes with cream cheese frosting. Those helped feed a family, a soccer team or a birthday party with plenty of leftovers!
