I know they sell different models there but sometimes they have their own specific setup. The one that I just finished was a specific model only sold through Costco and also came with a Costco specific accessory package.Oddly I've seen them both ways at Costco. IDK why. Maybe production over runs and so Weber disposes of things through Costco?
That is weird. I've never seen the thin SS bars with wide spacing from WeberIt's just a bit weird. I've seen the display models and one day it's CI grates and the next they might have the flimsy SS ones (thin 7mm and VERY wide spacing).
Interesting! I have the original set of SS grates that came in the one I just rehabbed from Costco. I don't think they are what you're describing though. They are very tight spacing. Equivalent spacing with some of the best I have at 3/8" between bars. It'll show up at Costco. It's basically their so called "upgraded" grates. MEH.
They're pretty bad though IMO.
I remember how disappointed I was with the Genesis ll models when I was thinking about buying a new grill four or five years ago. It's hard to imagine the newer ones are any flimsier than those are. Still, I sadly believe you.I just talked to a guy who just purchased this one. Get them while you can. These
Genesis ii grills have much better construction than the current models IMO.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on this. Here is my "test". If I can stick most or all of my index finger between the bars the grates are not worth my time. And I was able to get nearly all the way to my knuckles on the grates at Costco. To me, you can lose an entire T-Bone on them. They are not 304 SS and don't hold up for several years like high quality SS grates. I absolutely agree with that but the construction is good in my opinion and not flimsy or wide bar spacing at all IMO. No I wouldn't buy these but I think it's a huge upgrade IMO from CI grates. I have nothing but respect for you Larry 100% and at least half way agree with you on this one. I buy quality parts for my own personal keeker grills and don't have any of these non 304 SS grates on any of my personal grills.
Qulimetal 7mm grates would be a superior option with true 304 SS for probably half the cost of Weber Genesis non 304 SS grates. Appearance and construction is nearly identical though.
I have had several Genesis ii grills with SS grates from the factory. I have a couple sets in my garage right now. The spacing on them is 3/8 of an inch which is exactly the spacing of RCPlanebuyer Dave Santana's grates and the iconic 9930s which in my opinion is a nice spacing. I'm not sure what spacing you would prefer. Or maybe you found some oddball set of grates that I've never seen before. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this. Here is my "test". If I can stick most or all of my index finger between the bars the grates are not worth my time. And I was able to get nearly all the way to my knuckles on the grates at Costco. To me, you can lose an entire T-Bone on them.
I guess everyone has their own criteria but in a pinch it's my test.
