Correct spot for the little black washers

Okay so I'm putting together my third wsm and have had the following questions each time I assemble one. First what's the purpose of the little black washers? Second, where's the correct spot for them to go on the wsm legs and rack holders? I called weber and they couldn't tell me either. The instructions show a pic of how they go, but it doesn't include wsm in the pic. For my wsm's I placed them in the following places-
Grate holders middle section - on the outside of the middle piece between the screw head and porcelain.
Legs- inside the bottom piece between the metal washer and the porcelain.

Did I put them in the correct spots?

The fiber washers? I put them on the outside to avoid metal on porcelain.
Sounds like you did it the same.

I had the same question when assembling mine. The diagrams I have show locations but I couldn't distinguish metal washers from fiber washers in the diagrams. I ended up with the fiber washer between the leg and bowl, metal washer inside between bowl and nut. Did the mid section same as you. Better diagrams would be helpful if washer location matters.

Update: The diagram does have a slight color variation to distinguish metal from fiber washers. I got it right if 'grey' means fiber and 'no-color' means metal.

Ok finally talked to someone at weber who knew what they were doing (I believe). The fiber washers are to protect porcelain from contacting the screw hardware. So on the legs the fiber washer goes on the inside between the metal washer and porcelain. On the middle section they go on the outside between the screw head and porcelain. Thanks all.
