Corn Cob Smoking

I spotted an old thread about using corn cobs for smoking. I had forgotten about this, but had ordered cob smoked hams from Harrington's of Vermont many years ago.

Has anyone followed through and used corn cobs in their WSM? I will definitely use cobs when I next smoke bacon. I'd like to try cobs with a pork butt - has anyone tried this?

When it is time to plant corn next spring, I hope that I remember this thread. Their are some country folks burning cobs and dried corn for fuel for heat in their wood burning stoves around central and northern Illinois now.

Bob - My wife will love it when I start picking cobs from the trash and drying them in her food dehydrator.

I used to have a cornfield right beside my place. Sadly, the farmer sold out and the new owners have raised a bumper crop of yuppie dwellings.

I've used corn cobs and found them to produce a rather neutral smoke. They're on the order of burning oak.

Hope this helps. And watch out for bulls as you're gathering the cobs.
