Know this has been done a million times on this board. But I followed along and jumped off the bridge. This is my 2011 copper OTS now with the OTG ash catcher on it. Got it from webercloseouts on eBay.

Looks great. Is this an easy mod? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Real easy takes about 10 minutes. Remove the legs, snap in the new ash catcher and put the legs back on. Done. No more hot embers blowing out of the pan.

darn... Good eye though.

This looks like a pretty straightforward plug and play mod, isn't it? I picked up a 22.5 OTS and wanted to convert to a OTG and add the ash catcher. Spoke to a Weber customer service rep who said it was not possible.

Is there something I should know before ordering the gold ash catcher?

Did the CS rep say why?
The only thing I can think of is the older kettles don't have the slots cut into the leg sockets, but some members have posted a work-around on that fix.

Not directly why, but just adamantly said it wouldn't work. Even though I just told her it was for an AA 22.5 kettle OTS, so it's not an older one.

Anyone know how much they go for directly from Weber? Would it be cheaper to go through webercloseouts on ebay?

Jack, weber cs told me the same thing, I have a 2009 OTS. I ordered one from webercloseouts, no problem, like Brian says 10 min to install.

Thanks Dave...I'll be ordering one up this week.

Thanks for the info, guys. A month ago I picked up the last two 22 1/2 inch Weber OTS from Target in Carrollton, GA for $43.00 apiece. And I'd been really wanting an ashpan to avoid the hassles of the useless tray.

Just ordered the ashpan from 'webercloseouts' for $44.00, including shipping. When it arrives I'll unbox the new grill and attach the ashpan.

So $87.00 to have the equivalent of a brand new 22 1/2 inch OTG is a great deal!

Not to rain on your parade, but the OTG's will have the hinged cooking grates, OTS don't, and I think OTG have 2 handles on the bowl. Still good price to pick up 2 OTS/OTG

Understood - but I'll be junking the cheapie thin grill grate anyway. I purchased a Stok cast iron grill from Home Depot for 40 bucks shipped. I never planned on using the factory one anyway.

Once I get that bad boy seasoned up, it'll be ready for steaks, spare rib smokes (3 racks at a time) or 10 hr brisket with no reload.

Way to go, I'm with you.
Not sure why the OTG needs 2 handles.
And changing the grill out for a better one, only makes sense.
Besides, you could sell the spare parts or if you pick up a used 22, you can put the unused parts in it and sell it or give it to a family member or friend.
The OTG is $150, Even with all the upgrades, you're still about $50 ahead. You did good by me!
