Considering a Genesis

... Take the savings and contact Omaha Steaks!!

Sorry Skip, this is were I question you credibility.

:)

...Spirit is far outselling the Genesis, and yes, it may be that Weber hit a magic pricepoint that yields great value. Wasn't the reason I bought it - just made more sense for the $ difference.

Actually it sounds like it's the very reason you bought the Spirit. (and that's not ment to be a disparging remark at all, it just sounded funny to me when I read it. :) )

Andy, You may want to check the Private Reserve selection instead of the bargain assortment you see advertized everywhere. Tell me you can find a better filet in your local market. They are great - many people's opinions play off the "lost leader" assortments - give them a try!

I did not purchase based on pricepoint - I purchase based on Alliance dealers recommendation and knowledge. The BTU/sq ratio in was brought to my attention. The grate comparision in space gained (minimal) was brought to my attention. The firebox size was brought to my attention. I was in the market for a Genesis, but these points as well as others made the Spirit an excellent choice over the Genesis. Hope you continue to enjoy yours!

The The BTU/sq ratio might be a little better in the Spirit but it's not so much better as to make a difference in efficiency or performance. With the Genesis's design and double walled hood it is probably more efficient than the Spirit, not needing the extra BTUs.

That is a definite. From a design and efficiency standpoint the Genesis has it all over. I am sure the Spirit is a decent piece but trust me Weber would NOT design it to out shine it's big brother in any way

A few years ago I had a coupon for Omaha steaks and decided to order up some pricey filets for some out of town guests who really enjoy steaks. (Not to mention my wife and I as well). It was embarrassing. The steaks were tough and had no flavor. Even at my discounted price, I still felt the steaks were subpar. Omaha steaks had advertised "If you are not absolutely thrilled with your purchase they' refund your money." Needless to say I wasn't " absolutely thrilled", I could have done better with some choice steaks from my local grocery store. These steaks were mediocre at best. I will say Omaha steaks did refund my money without any hassle.

I've seen the Private Reserve advertised, but can’t' tell what grade the beef is, they advertise it as "perfect" but never mention the USDA grade. I find that fishy...even deceptive.

Right now they are having a site wide sale: I can get 6, 7 oz. filets for half price, $99. That works out to be almost $38 a pound not to mention shipping and handling. Even at the "sale" price, I could splurge and get Prime from my butcher, or some dry aged steaks at the gourmet store and still have quite a bit of change in my pocket..

I couldn't imagine anyone paying their "regular" price ($75 a lb. for filets?).

As far as the Spirit vs. Geneses discussion, I honestly hope I didn’t' come across the wrong way. I've only heard good things about the Spirit and hope you can post some pics of some of your cooks

Sorry you had a bad experience with Omaha, and glad they stood behind their word. You in the Boston area?? Tough 17 seconds of HEdoublehockeysticks the other nite!
