Cleaning the SJ Mini WSM

When I put mine together a couple of years ago, I was in such a hurry to try it out that I didn't bother to paint the IMUSA steamer. Now, I'd like to paint it to match the SJ but it is pretty grimy after much use. I know that most of you who painted their SJ/mWSM did so before first use, but I'm hopeful that someone (like me ) has plowed this ground already and can advise how to go about a cleaning before painting.

Clean with Simple Green and a green Scotch Pad.
Then wipe with acetone. Prime and paint.

SOS pad works also, and a bit cheaper than simple green. Another option is Bar Keepers Friend and a scotch pad.

Mac, when you say 'prime and paint' does that mean 2 coats of heat resistant paint? If not, can you give advice on what primer and paint to buy? I have Lowe's and Home Depot as well as a Sherwin Williams store close by.

I used High Temp Engine paint and primer from an auto parts store.

I used Rustoleum high heat ultra on mine 2 years ago and still holding up. I used 2 coats and no primer .....just make sure it's the ultra. I restored a Weber Genesis silver grill and used it....it is really easy to work with and dries fast.
