Cleaning stainless grates- oven cleaner?

I'm about to spray and coat the cast stainless steel grates of my recently acquired Broilmaster P3gy-1 with Easy-Off oven cleaner.
After applying a very liberal coating to both sides and placing them in a plastic trash bag, how long do you guys leave them and is there a point of diminishing returns or is longer better. Also, is this a process that gets better results after multiple times doing it?

Leave the bag out in the sun and one day should do it. If they don't clean up easily after that, then do it another time.

Yep and don't be overly concerned with getting them shiny.

I use the Fume Free Easy Off on my cooking grates and use a nylon brush on them in 2 days or at my leisure. I then further clean them in the utility sink.

If you do want "shiny" then hit them with an angle grinder and wire cup brush. But I don't recommend it. A couple uses and they will look just like they do now anyway.
