Cleaning a corn & tater ring

The corn & tater ring thread in the Trading Post forum got me thinking about mine, which is pretty dirty and rusty (it came with the grill and I've never used it). Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning it? For potatoes and unhusked corn I don't think it'd really matter much but I'd be hesitant about using it for husked ears.

Put it on some newspapers and spray it with some easy-off. Place that in a large HD trash bag and take it to the local spray & wash.
I did that for yrs with my gunked up grates till I got a pressure washer.

if its rust then you need to clean that off with either ss wool or copper wool. don't use steel wool cuz it will promote rusting. if its still not what you want then get some fine wet sandpaper and finish it off with that. then protect with a spray of pam. its what i did to mine when i got it. its gonna take a bit of time but in the end it will be well worth it.

Thanks! Yes, it's more corrosion than anything else...I wonder if naval jelly might work. Use that in place of oven cleaner and then finish with a pressurized wash.
