CL score needs a new handle

Picked this up via CL a little over a week ago for $20. The lady was kind enough to also throw in a chimney starter, a bag of charcoal, some veggie pans, and a couple bottles of lighter fluid.

The only problem is that somewhere along the line of this beauty someone removed the original top handle. I'd love to get some nice wood handles put on but am not really sure what to do about the top since the welds are gone. I've found this: http://www.ereplacementparts.com/handle-kit-wshield-p-1476033.html but am just not sure I'd love the look of it.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!!

Great looking redhead Sam...not sure what you can do about the handle, but what are you going to do with the lighter fluid???? If this were my redhead I would just leave it as is.

What I would do is cut a metal patch to cover all the holes. Paint it and drill new hole threw the patch and kettle. I would weld the patch on. If you handy of course.

That's a sweet redhead for $20.

I like Tim's idea of the patch, but if you went with wooden handles maybe you can cut a small piece of wood and stain it to match the handles you get and make a patch out of it. You might have to lengthen the screws that hold the handle on

Go to the weber kettle club page. They got guys who make all kinds of handles(wood too) for old weber grills.

i would just get some metal the same size as the other handles, bend it to the proper size and then use ss hardware to bolt it on.
make sure to use fender washers to cover the holes but to give it extra strength. on the rust just sand it and then treat it with pam.
won't look bad at all. i did that on a sj and it looks just fine. unless yer really hot for original handles, you can just cut some wood to fit if
you have the means. otherwise buying handles can get rather costly.
