Chopping Butt Meat ?

Hi All,

I'm hosting my daughter's birthday party next week and am going to smoke a butt.
I usually just do the traditional pull and serve with buns and sauces for adults.
My question is, as this is a toddlers party, what is the opinion on doing a rough chop after pulling to reduce the meat size?
I like the look of the rough pull but am thinking more about safety / choking hazards.

Thanks.

I have a two year old. I pull it for us and chop it really fine for her. She loves it with a sweet sauce on a soft bun or bread.

James, for toddlers you are right on. Smaller chop would be best, from my experience.

I have 2- and 3-year-old cowboys living with us and small chop, almost ground, would be best for them. Ketchup instead of BBQ sauce (sorry). Also, I'd suggest going very light (almost none) on the seasonings for that age group. Heat = 0. Some will surprise you - our 3-year-old boy is quite adventurous; he'll taste anything, but when it comes to actually eating I'd go blander.

Sometimes toddlers in that age group like things mixed with spaghetti or small pasta shapes. Think orzo or macaroni & cheese.

I'm not advocating adding sugar or honey, but......our cowboys like lightly sweetened baked beans and sweet potatoes. Emphasis on the lightly or they will be bouncing off the walls all night.

That's been my experience the last year or two. I have one leaning toward carnivore and the other leaning toward vegetarian, an interesting challenge. Little princesses might be different. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Edit: Travis, I see that you were thinking along the same lines while I was working on my post. Yes, you are right...soft bread or bun.

Rita
