Chocolate Sauce

Ok, this may sound gross...but has anybody ever made a chocolate bbq sauce? i saw a recipe in the Baron's cookbook that was made with chipotle and chocolate. i am not talking about a huge amount of chocolate, just a sauce that has some in it.

You bet it can actually be very good. I often make one with a dark chocolate and some hotter peppers. Sounds similar to what you talking about. I also like rubs with cocoa powder in them for beef.

you might want to investigate mexican mole sauces. In addition to chocolate and chiles, there's other stuff like: nuts, seeds, raisins, cinnamon. Its not exactly bbq sauce but I'm sure its the inspiration for bbq sauces with chocolate.

Moles are a blast to make since you have 15-20 ingredients/elements and are really tasty with things like brazed chicken.

Making a mole, you'll learn a ton about the different kinds chiles and flavor combinations and give you some confidence to try some new things with your bbq.
