Just little friendly banter....Just made a chipotle wet rub for my ribs this morning, consiting of salt, sugar, garlic, onion, and dried rehyrated chiptle chilis and some of their rehydration water. it smells quite tasty...i took a chunk of chiptle and ate it , it wasnt particularly tasty...tasted like eating a cigar/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif!

also i went to inject my chicken this morning, and my damn siringe broke! The rubber plunger keeps coming off the plastic pushed while i'm pulling it out to suck more stuff in....i even tried epoxying it...no help. Anyone know of a decent siringe for injecting were this wont happen?

When that happens the needle is stopped up with one of the spices and needs to be clean out sometimes its easier said than done.

Cajun injectors run about $25 but are stainless and built to last, a real tool.
Can find them on the net.

Jim, I'm not sure we're talking the same product, but Cajun Injector, has their Signature Series injector syringe available on their website:
Cajun Injector
Look in the "Specials" section. The signature series sells for $24.99.
They also have stainless steel models available, which are probably the most durable.

No, there was nothing stopping up the needle since the needle wasnt even installed. It was just a crappy fit with between the rubber plunger and the body of the syringe...oh well, its in the trash now. ithink i might get a stainless one so that never happenns again.

BTW: the ribs were awesome. Just a touch of heat, but as i was told before the smokyness of the chipotle was covred..but it did add some nice earthyness.

For what it's worth, there is a middle ground on that injector which may interest you. I suspect that the one you had trouble with is the cheapy which comes with a jar of marinade, shrinkwrapped at the grocery store. (I have several in the cabinet.) I recently bought a much better made one at Academy, a sporting goods chain which carries a few smokers. Interestingly, it uses the same needle, but instead of screwing (sort-of) into a plastic syringe, it fits into a metal receiver and is secured by a metal piece with threads to mate with the metal receiver. The syringe is clear plastic, but much heavier than the cheapy. And the piston fits through a piece which screws securely on the top of the syringe.
Now, they had one with the Cajun Injector (I think) name on it, for $10. They also had one which was identical (even down to the color) with a different name, for $5 (or $6). I bought two. I expect that these will last a long time, and I think one would have to do a LOT of injecting to warrant a $25 stainless injector. Just IMHO.

Yeah, $25 for a syringe is a lot of cash. You are right mine was one of those cheapy ones i got at Ace hardware....i'll try to look for a sturdier one at BBQ galore, now that i know what i should be looking for.

thanks

Ouch! My experience is that BBQs Galore has lots of neat stuff, but they're really going to charge you for it. If you don't find a decent injector for under $10, send me a private message and I'll send you one for cost plus actual shipping.
Case in point, I saw leather gloves in their store for something like $25; bought some at a hardware store at Trader's Village for about $8. And they were heavier material, too.

Cool, thanks Ken, if i get a chance i'll go to BBQ galore this weekend, and yes i agree they are way overpriced on just about everything!
This week i was at target and i ran into an aluminum baster with a needle at the end, i bought one since it was just $3, and i'll give that a try, it might be perfectly fine.
